Creating your own book printing house is a very difficult undertaking that requires a lot of money and effort from an entrepreneur. However, there are prospects for such a business, and although at present there are a considerable number of publications that will act as serious competitors to a budding entrepreneur, this does not mean that there is no chance to take some market share.

The first thing you need to register as a business entity, then you can, theoretically, take shape as an individual entrepreneur, but still it is better to choose the form of a limited liability company, which, as is the case with individual entrepreneurship, allows the use of a simplified taxation system, which involves transfer in favor of the state no more than 6% of revenues or 15% of operating profit as taxes. The registration process cannot be called complex, the state duty amounts to 4,000 rubles. If the printing house does not intend to print its own products, and only publish custom books from third-party companies, then you do not need to obtain additional permissions and licenses. Otherwise, you will have to register your media. It should be noted that this article examines the opening of a printing house, and although it often exists on the basis of an already operating publishing house or closely cooperates with several book publishing houses, the book printing house and book publishing house are different types of business, and the latter is detailed written in this article.

After all the formalities are settled, you can proceed to the opening of the printing house. In general, novice entrepreneurs rarely open a large office, because in the early stages it should be saved a lot, but in a way that does not affect the quality of the material and work. It is better if like-minded people open such a business, because in this case the entrepreneur will almost certainly have people who will work with him. Sometimes, due to the enthusiasm of a few people, it is not necessary to hire employees from outside, therefore the representation of the printing house can be very small. And it is not necessary to open a publishing house in the city center, you can find a room somewhere on the outskirts, so that you pay less for the rent. It will be enough to have an office in the size of 30-40 square meters, but this is only the size of the publisher, if you intend to maintain your own printing house, then you need to look for the room for it.

For the printing house itself and the warehouse it will be necessary to have a room of at least 100 m2 in size, of course, the exact size is calculated depending on individual parameters, but the equipment takes several tens of square meters, consumables need to be stored in a separate room (a large printing house often has hundreds packages of printing paper of various types, although excess stocks are means withdrawn from circulation), and finished products need their own warehouse. Temperature and humidity should be taken into account there, otherwise books can start to deteriorate, especially if they are stored for a long time. The cost of renting may differ in different cities, of course, in the province to rent an office is much cheaper, in megacities even a small room will have to pay a lot of money, but on average you need to rely on about 20 thousand rubles a month for an area of ​​about 25-30 m2 – this is only on representation. 100 m2 to the warehouse and production premises will have to pay additionally – 80-100 thousand rubles, if not in the city center. It is necessary to equip an office with simple furniture and appliances, the calculation is 50-60 thousand rubles for one workplace on average. The number of people may be different (more on this below), so the exact figure can not be called.

Thus, it is possible to remove a small room, equip it for a small amount and, if necessary, carry out repairs, after which it will be possible to start the work of the representative office. However, additional funds need to be allocated for programmers, web designers and designers, they usually work in very expensive programs, graphic editors, for example, so their workplace is much more expensive. For example, the cost of only a full package of Adobe Photoshop will be 18 thousand rubles per job per year, and often people work with packages from a dozen software vendors, and sometimes the prices of products are much higher. It’s quite difficult to give an exact number, because sometimes you can find free alternatives to paid programs, but it is not always possible to use it, depending on the format of the publishing house. For example, if you publish books with a considerable number of illustrations, then simple graphic programs will not be enough – you will need professional packages.
